Answers to common questions about trekking, permits, safety and booking a trip to northern Pakistan with Indus Adventure.
Most nationalities require a Pakistani tourist visa, which can be applied for online through the Pakistan visa portal (evisa.gov.pk) or at a Pakistani embassy. Citizens of many countries can obtain a visa on arrival. Gilgit-Baltistan itself does not require a separate regional permit for standard treks, but some specific valleys and high-altitude zones require a No Objection Certificate (NOC) which Indus Adventure arranges on your behalf.
The K2 Base Camp trek requires entry into Central Karakoram National Park. Required permits include a CKNP entry permit and an official NOC from the Ministry of Tourism. Porters must carry a porter insurance card. Indus Adventure handles all permit logistics, government registrations, and royalty fees as part of the trek package.
The main trekking season runs from June through September for high-altitude routes like K2 Base Camp, Snow Lake and Gondogoro La. Fairy Meadows and Hunza are accessible from May through October. Spring (April–May) is ideal for Hunza blossom season. Deosai Plains are best July–September when wildflowers are in bloom and the road is clear.
The K2 Base Camp trek is expedition-level and demands a high degree of physical fitness. You should be comfortable walking 6–8 hours per day on rough terrain for 10–14 consecutive days. Prior multi-day trekking experience at altitude is strongly recommended. Fairy Meadows and Hunza tours are suitable for moderately fit walkers. Indus Adventure will advise on preparation based on your experience level.
